Emphasising government’s commitment to providing piped water to every household, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the Jal Jeevan Mission was proving to be a boon for the people of nine districts of Bundelkhand and Vindhya regions by making clean tap water accessible to all.

“In the past, bone-dry villages of the Bundelkhand region were in the news due to water scarcity. The successful implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission has changed that and it is now giving new impetus to the development of this region,” the chief minister said here on Friday.

While assessing the achievements of various departments in a high-level meeting, the chief minister said: “With the prime minister’s innovative Jal Jeevan Mission, the dream of pure drinking water is being fulfilled in every household. Under the Har Ghar Nal-Har Ghar Jal scheme, more than 18.67 lakh houses in the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions have been connected with piped drinking water.”

Issuing directions to the officers, the chief minister said that all the works under the scheme should be completed in a phased and time-bound manner. He also asked the officials to strengthen the on-site inspection system and maintain transparency in the procedure.

The government has set a target to complete the schemes in progress in Bundelkhand by the month of November.

Work under Har Ghar Nal-Har Ghar Jal Yojana is progressing at full swing in 66 districts of the state. “The work will start soon in the remaining districts. Pure drinking water will not only help people quench their thirst but also help them keep several water-borne diseases at bay,” Yogi said.

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the state government has so far provided 36.23 lakh water connections in over 97,000 villages.

“The UP government has set a target to provide tap connections to 10.40 lakh houses in the next six months. A target of 82 lakh tap connections has been set for the end of this financial year,” Yogi said.

The state government has set a target of providing 2.64 crore tap connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission in the state. In the first phase, this work has been started in 6,831 revenue villages of nine districts of the Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions, and it is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

In the second phase, the work is in progress in 33,039 revenue villages of 61 districts. For the third phase, the detailed project reports are being prepared for work to be carried out in 30,016 revenue villages of 61 districts of the state.

By December 2024, every household in Uttar Pradesh will get pure water from the tap.
